MARTON JOCKEY CLUB

NEW YEAR MEETING A feature of the Marton Jockey Club's meeting, which will open on Friday (New Year’s Day) and will be concluded on Saturday, is the presence of a. large number of visiting horses. Accommodation has been booked already for more than 60 I horses, which have arrived. A number of Awapuni and Wanganui horses will be taken through on the day of the races. Lady- Derby (7.12) was omitted from the published list of acceptors for the Dash Hack Handicap on Friday, making a field of twelve for this event. In the event of the number of starters for the Maiden Race being in excess of the “safety” number, 25, the race will be run in divisions, and the total prize-money will be increased from £l5O to £225. The winner of each division will receive £97 10s, the second horses £lO and the third horses £5. Four scratchings will be required to obviate the necessity for divisions. Betting at the meeting will be on the win-and-place system. The Queen Alexandra's Band will provide a programme of music each day. With no complimentary tickets issued, there will be a flat rate for admission, 5s for men and 2s 6d for ladies, and only one enclosure. Members of His Majesty’s forces in uniform will be admitted free. WELLINGTON CLUB NOMINATIONS DUE MONDAY With the Wellington Cup carrying a stake of £3OOO, including a gold cup valued at £l5O, the Wellington Racing Club has a feature event for its summer meeting, which will be held at Trentham on two successive Saturdays, January 16 and 23. On the second day of the meeting the Wellington Racing Club Handicap will be worth £l5OO, and the open sprint each day carries a stake of i £lOOO. Two open mile races are worth £6OO, and there is a like stake for the | Douro Handicap, for hacks. No race is worth less than £350.
