U-BOAT COUNTER-BLOW

EXPECTED IN U.S.A. Washington, Nov. 10. The North African campaign was going well, Colonel Frank Knox. Secretary of the Navy, told the Press, but he warned that the Germans certainly would concentrate submarine strength against the supply lines to North Africa, withdrawing from the North Atlantic for this purpose. Consequently every supply ship or convoy must traverse an ocean of submarines, giving the navy a heavy addition to its responsibility. Colonel Knox said whether North Africa was in the nature of a second front depend upon German counteraction, but probably there would be a lot of lighting there for an extended period. The Africa front would not cease to be active with Rommel's defeat. Colonel Knox issued a caution on this subject. “Don't yet regard Rommel's defeat as completely accomplished/’ he said. “Even now there is a possibility that the Germans are reinforcing him.”
