FIRST APPEALS HEARD
MEN IN RECENT BALLOT NO. 2 BOARD'S DECISIONS The first of the appeals on behalf of men called up for military service in Ihe most recent ballot were dealt with when the No. 2 (Wanganui) Armed Forces Appeal Board sat in Wanganui yesterday. Married men called un in this ballot, which was gazetted on September 15, were aged 35, 36 and 37 years at the time. -The board consisted of Mr. F. Purnell (Marton), chairman, and Messrs. D. G. O’Toole and H. Adams. The board will sit in Wanganui again to-morrow. Appeals heard and decisions were:
P. J. Smith, carrier, appealed for two lorry drivers, E. Fromont and R. E. Tyler. The appeals were adjourned till the first sitting after March 31, 1943. H. J. Hoskin, personal appeal and also appeal by Vacuum Cleaning Co., Ltd., the first appeal was adjourned till the first sitting after December 31 and the second was dismissed. E. Conybeer, office machines mechanic, appeal by Conybeer Bros, and Miller and Springhall, Ltd., adjourned sine die. to join Home Guard.
R. E. Tingey and Co., Ltd., appealed for the following employees: J. Fyfe,
salesman, adjourned sine die, to re main in Home Guard; F. W. J. Bridges, salesman, dismissed, not to be called before November 30.
W. J. T. Buckley, bushman, personal appeal, dismissed, not to be called before December 31.
D. A. Couper, driver, personal appeal. dismissed, not to be called before November 30; A. J. Donald, dairy farmer, personal appeal, adjourned sine die, to remain in Home Guard; H. S. Garner, upholsterer, personal appeal, adjourned to March 31, 1943; J. G. Caird, insurance agent, personal appeal, adjourned sine die, to join Home Guard; L. Denman, butcher, appeal by Denman Bros., dismissed, not to be called before December 31.
D. R. Blight, company secretary, appeal by the Wanganui Aerated Water and Ice Cream Co.. Ltd., dismissed. not to be called before January 31, 1943; E. A. Butcher, railway shunter; appeal by Castlecliff Railway Co., dismissed, not to be called before January 31, 1943.
W. F. Wilson applied for leave from camp—no recommendation. Mrs. W. Sercombe applied for the release from camp for farm work of L. A. Ross—no recommendation.
F. W. Banks, foreman, meter repair shop, appeal by Wanganui City Council Gas Department, adjourned sine die; T. J. Richdale, market gardener, person appeal, adjourned sine die, reservist to join the Home Guard; R. W. Cawston, carrier, personal appeal, adjourned sine die, reservist to remain in Lines of Communication Company; N. C. Baker, warehouse assistant, appeal by Director of National Service, adjourned sine die, reservist to join the Home Guard.
J. Cant, driver, appeal gainst Home Guard service, dismissed. C. R. W. Merrett, appeal for leave from camp by N.Z. Refrigerating Company, release recommended from December 1 to March 31, 1943; W. E. D. Bishop, brass moulder, application for extension of existing leave from camp by Wanganui Engineering Company, recommended for indefinite leave.
