ROWING AFFAIRS

WANGANUI ASSOCIATION MEETING It. was reported at the annual meeting of the Wanganui Rowing Association last night, that there are prospects of three or four crews from men in camp taking up rowing this season. This is in addition to about 18 members of the Air Training Corps taking part in the sport. Mr. C. A. Healey, club captain of the Union Boat. Club, said it was hoped to arrange Saturday afternoon fixtures in which crews from the different clubs could hold sprint races. It would, he said, assist to keep rowing going in a difficult period. The election of officers resulted: Patron, Mr. F. Haywood; vicepatron, Mr. T. II Janies; president, Mr. R. J. McDonald; vice-presidents, Messrs. N. G. Armstrong. A. Webster, J. B. Cotterill, M.P., L. E. Budge, C. ; S. Young, P. Evans. H. Collier, W. R. Johns, W. L. McAvoy, C. G. Fearon; secretary and treasurer, Mr. E. J. Crotty; assistant secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. R. McElwain; executive committee, Messrs. J. Stokes, D. Holmes, P. Stowers, M. Larkin, C. Evans, L. Clapham, C. A. Healey, M. Ryan. W. G. Coombes. The annual report stated that the association had five clubs under its jurisdiction—Aramoho. Clifton, New Plymouth, Union, and Wanganui. The season opened with an "At Home" at the Union Boat Club and later in the season similar gatherings were held with the Aramoho and* Wanganui Clubs. The report congratulated the Aramoho Club on winning both the senior and junior head-of-the-river races, which were keenly contested. Because cf depleted memberships in the different clubs owing to the war. the activities of the association were curtailed compared with previous seasons. The association offered its sympathy to <he relatives of men killed on active service. The meeting was presided over by Mr. R. J. McDonald.
