X-RAY ADVANCE

DEVELOPMENT ANNOUNCED Chicago, Sept. 19. The development at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology ot an X-ray generator producing radiation that is more penetrating than the gamma rays and with an intensity that is greater than the entire available world supply of radium was announced at the annual meeting of the American Roentgen Society by Dr. John Trump. The new apparatus produces directcurrent X-rays operating at a potential of more than 4.000.000 volts. Dr. Dresser, Boston, said that the highvoltage rays have essentially the same physical properties as the gamma rays of radium, but their high intensity permits long treatment distances, with the result that the depth of the dose it much greater than is possible in MKfeum therapy.
