NEW ZEALAND GIRLS
INVOLVED IN ACCIDENT NEAR CAIRO (P.A.) Auckland, May 12. Three Auckland girls and two from southern cities, all Voluntary Aids working in Helwan, out of Cairo, were involved in a serious accident recently when an Army truck in which they were travelling one night skidded on a wet road, went over a bank and somersaulted two or three times. The injured girls were: Patricia Dawson, daughter of Mr. Charlton Dawson, Rcmuera; Lois Cameron, daughter of Mr. H. Y. Cameron, Remuera; Elsie Reed, daughter of Mr. Vernon Reed, Paihia, Bay of Islands; Margaret MacDonald, Christchurch; Jennie Lane, Ashburton. All were injured, some seriously. They wore taken to hospital but it is understood all have now been discharged. On the night of the accident the girls were on leave ahd were being driven in the Army truck to a party. There were three soldiers with them, including Ihe driver. Much difficulty was experienced in getting some of the injured girls from underneath the truck. The live girls were among 200 Voluntary Aids and clerical workers selected for service overseas with the 2nd. N.Z.E.F. Overseas Hospital Division. They had been doing hospital duty in Helwan.
