MUFTI ALLOWANCES
INCREASES ANNOUNCED (P.A.) Auckland, April 20. Folilowing representations made by; the Auckland Provincial Patriotic, Council, through the National! Patriotic Council, the War Cabinet has. approved the payment of mufti al-’ lowances to members of all armed forces on discharge, including certain of those who have not left New Zealand. Hitherto, such allowances have been payable only to returning members of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Until last November the amount' was £7 10s. but this was increased re-| (respectively to £l2 10s at a total cost of £lO,OOO. Advice received by the chairman of; the Provincial Patriotic Council. Mr. J. A. C. Allum, states that the allowance of £l2 10s has been extended' to members of the Navy and Air Force' returning from overseas. The extension is made retrospective to the out-, break of the war. In addition, the) War Cabinet has approved an allow-; ance of £7 10s to members of three! services who have not served overseas! but have given full-time continuous! service for 12 months prior to dis-! charge. This authority rates on and; after April 1. 1942. In the event oi any former member of the forces join-: ing up and serving for further months.' no further similar grant is to be made.: The following sections of the mili-| tary forces are corered by the 1 authority:—The Territorial Force, the; temporary staff, temporary employ-; ment section. Guards of Vital Points. | the Army Nursing Service, the Women’s War Service Auxiliary and; the Home Guard. No officer or man, discharged or placed on leave without pay prior to April 1, 1942, is entitled to the £7 l<is allowance.
