DAY OF PRAYER
PALM SUNDAY CHOSEN OBSERVANCE IX N.Z. Wellington, March 20. At. the King’s wish, Palm Sunday. March 29, is to be observed as a national day of prayer, states a London cablegram. His Majesty hopes that his people, wherever possible, wil' unite in humble prayer for strength and guidance to face the tasks that lie ahead. In compliance with the King’s desire that Palm Sunday, March 29 should be observed as a special day of prayer, the churches in general throughout New Zealand will make special arrangements for this purpos On Dehalf of the Anglican Church the following statement was issued to the Press last night "The Archbishop of New Zealand welcomes the call of the King to prayer on Palm Sunday, March 29, and hopes that all the churches of the Anglican communion throughout the Dominion will observe the day and that notice of it will be given in the churches next Sunday.” The Roman Catholic Archbishop of Wellington and Metropolitan of New Zealand, the Most Rev. Thomas O’Shea, by virtue of his Lenten pastoral, designated special prayer for each day of Lent for the purpose which has been requested by the King. There has been a magnificent response, but. an even greater effort will be called for on Palm Sunday. The Moderator of the Presbytery of Wellington, the Rev. A. Salmond, requests ministers and congregations within the bounds to make fitting preparation for the observance of Palm Sunday as a day of national prayer. The day will be observed by the Salvation Army in all its corps ami institutions throughout the Dominion The Methodist Churches will all be observing Palm Sunday as a special day of prayer, and the churches of other denominations will be doing likewise.
