HOME DEFENCE CAMPS
GRANTS I OR RECREATION PURPOSES (P.A.) Wellington, March 12. Approval for the erection, where necessary, of bolted huts lor recreation purposes in home defence camps in the Dominion has been given by the standing committee of the National Patriotic Fund Board, Mr. G. A. Hayden, secretary, stated to-day. This was one of the decisions made in the interests of the welfare of the men mobilised for home defence. For a start, Mr. Hayden added, an order has been placed lor 16 huts, the first of which was expected to be ready by Monday. The huts are being built in sections so that if a camp is moved the huts can be taken down and moved also with the men. They will be 60ft. long and 24ft. wide. The committee ako approved a grant of £lOOO to anjorganisation m Great Britain, headed by Lady Frances Ryder, which provides entertainment and hospitality for servicemen from the Dominions. The grant was made on the recommendation of Mr. W. J. Jordan. Last year the organisation provided accommodation and hospitality for 2600 New Zealand air and naval personnel. The committee also approved of radio sets being supplied to four New Zealand minesweepers for the entertainment of the personnel, and of a grant lor regimental funds for the New Zealand Army Tank Brigade.
