JOINT COMMISSION
BRITAIN AND U.3.A. IN THE CARIBBEAN Rugby, March 9. The principle long followed in the British Commonwealth of Nations ol close co-operation between the countries in matters of common interest is . to be extended in the domain ol Anglo-American affairs by the crea- . tion of the Anglo-American Caribbean . Commission. The object of the commission, which ■ will primarily be concerned with matters of labour, agriculture, housing, health, education, social vveitarc, finance, and related subjects, is to encourage and strengthen social and economic co-operation in the Caribbean area between America and its possessions and bases on the one hand, and the United Kingdom and its colonies on the other. In its studies and in the formulation of recommendations to the respective Governments, the commission will . necessarily bear in mind the desira- 1 bility ol close co-operation in social ’ and economic matters between ah 1 regions adjacent to the Caribbean. The commission will consist of six r members, three from each country. s The members so far appointed are Sir Frank Stockdale, for Britain, and Mr. t Charles W. Faussig, for the United * States. These two will act as co- ' chairmen. s The keen interest which the Latin- r American republics have displayed in I such questions as are to be discusseci r by the commission if. regarded as an c assurance in itself that the step will i be welcomed throughout the Amen- f can Continent.—B.O.W.
