SOLDIERS’ TREATMENT

EXTRA HOSPITAL CHARGES WANGANU BOARD'S ATTITUDE A resolution carried recently by ihe Rangitikei County Council to the effect, that all medical treatment and hospital buildings for soldiers should he a charge on Ihe war expenses account was received by Ihe Wanganui Hospital Board at its monthly meeting yesterday and will be referred to the Hospital Boards’ Association of Now Zealand. “We are all in agreement with this” commented Mr. D. G. Gordon (Taihape), who added that he did not want, it insinuated that the Government was dodging its responsibilities. In Taihape, so far, the Government had met the board fairly. A certain amount ofwexpenditure would be hard lo allocate, and the co-operation of the Hospital Boards' Association should be sought. The chairman. Mr. W. E. Broderick (Maxwell) said he hoped th" Rangitikei County did not intend that hospitals should be built in places like Auckland and Wellington for soldiers alone. He thought the soldiers should be allowed to go to hospitals in their own district. They should be as near as possible to their own homes. Mr. A. S. Coleman (Rangitikei), said the council did not intend that special hospitals should be built for soldiers. The resolution referred to the Wanganui Hospital. A suggestion that soldiers should h? kept together in one ward was mad by Mr. A. P. Howard (Marton), who added that he thought the men would appreciate this. Mr. Broderick intimated that ho would support the resolution when it came before the association.
