WOMEN’S DIVISION OF FARMERS’ UNION

WANGANUI BRANCH COMMITTEE MEETING In order that i ent matters might' be attended to before going into recess, the committee of the Wanganui branch of the W.D.* U. met last Wednesday. when Mrs. A. McPhail presided. All stood in silence as a mark of sympathy with Mrs. S. A. Robinson. Mrs. H. A. Anderson and Mrs. S. G. I Millen, who had suffered bereavement since last meeting. Mr\ J. C. Wickham, on behalf of the Provincial Executive, distributed the branch's portion of wool from the Patriotic Council which, when knitted up. will he sent as part of the countrywomen’s contribution towards me n of the merchant navy. Tt was decided to meet in the Red Cross rooms in the forenoon of the first Wednesday in January to pack parcels for boys ov seas, as requested by the Mayor of Wanganui. Hon. W. J* Rogers. M.L.C. Members were asked to give as liberalh as in the past towards this expression of goodwill and appreciation of what is being done for the country by the fighting services. I The Dominion secretary intimated that knitted r oods. whether new or used, would be much appreciated by those in charge of the Seamen's Mission Depot in Wellington and several members undertook to continue with this phase of the branch's work. Mrs J. C. Wickham and Mrs. McPhail presented Mrs. R. Brown with tokens of appreciation for her many kindnesses during the year. She had ' given much pleasure by motoring | members to many of the W.D.F.I. | meetings held by other branches. . Mrs. Blyth and ' T . Fantham! moved a heart; v le of thanks to the president for the afternoon tea provided for all and Mrs. uutcher. on behalf »f the committee, conveyed loyal and cordial greetings for Christmas and the New Year. Mrs. McPhail reciprocated thes* 1 good wishes and thanked all members: for their co-operation during the year, especially mentioning all tea hostesses particularly Miss F. Sampson and Miss Worgan for their ever-ready services. In wishing those present “au revoir.” the president asked all to carry on bravely, secure in the faith that victory and peace lie ahead, to which all could contribute by an expression of optimism and a personal sense of goodwill towards all mankind. MEETING AT Hl NTERVILLE At the monthly meeting of the Hun- 1 terville W.D.F.U.. which was held in the Presbyterian Schoolroom. Mrs. Weston presided over a good attendance of members and opened the meeting with the creed. A sale of disabled soldiers’ goods was held and resulted in the sum of (45 being raised. The sale of Blind Institute goods. held previously, amounted to £3O. A small flower display was held with the following results: Jug of flowers. Mrs. Weston 1. Mrs. Aidworth 2. Mrs. Harr** 3; collection of roses. Mrs. Aid worth 1. Mrs. Kilmisier 2. Mrs. Harre 3; specimen rose, all entries received five points; best knitted scarf. Mrs. Hammond 1. Mr.. Morrison 2 Mrs. McAlley 3. A butter fund was started for the A.N.A. Club in Wellington and donations will be thankfully received. A good collection of books and goods were received for Porirua Mental Hospital. At afternoon lea. Mesdames Aidworth. G. impson. Misses Walker and McDonald were the hostesses. OKOIA BRANGH. The last meeting of the year was held on Tuesday last at the home of Mrs. J. Brandon. A few apologies were received, but despite busy times and petrol restrictions there was a good attendance. Both the general account and the soldiers’ parcel fund showed a sound financial position. Among the correspondence was an interesting letter from a local soldier now- stationed at Suva. The president. Mrs. O'Donnell, wished all members the compliments of the season, and expressed hope for happier and more peaceful times in the future, and also announced that there would be no meeting in January, but members would meet in Wanganui on the first Wednesday In February to discuss the possibility or holding the annual flower show. Meetings during the year have been hold at each other’s homes and have been very successful, happy gatherings which have been looked forward to with pleasure. More soldiers' parcels will be sent away this month, and will he packed hy members when distributed by th** secretary. During the afternoon the hostess showed a beautiful collection of brass, tapestry and other articles sent from Egypt. As usual, the produce stall did good business.
