TRANSPORT COMPANIES
N Z. LINES OF COMMUNICATION (Press Assn.) Wellington. Dee-. 13. Stressing the importance of extreme mobility in our defence plan.-, the Minister of Transport, Hon. H Semple, to-day. discussing the fun- - 7 lions of the Neu Lines of Commun. cation transport companies throughout the Dominion, said these companies were voluntary organisations of skilled drivers, who already are operating in our transport services throughout the country. Members were attested as part or the Home Guard and were und< i Army control. Companies already had been established in defence areas right throughout the Dominion. The total establishment of each company was 155 officers and other ranks with 72 three-ton vehicles and eight motorcycles. A considerable number or otflcfrs and n.c.o.'s have already attended training courses, and this training will be further developed. The Minister thanked those who haJ given their services in the tratning ci these companies, whch he said already had reached a high state of efficiency, hut he added that there was room in every centre for new driver, and vehicles.
