VALEDICTORY. Orautoha residents gathered at the ; Orautoha Hall to honour two of their t most popular boys—Privates Ron Cole ami Jim Brierly. A crowded Qiall testified to the popularity of these two. Private Cole is the son of old settlers of the Ruatiti ' district and has spent all his life with lhe people there. Known to all sport- r ing enthusiasts as a keen amateur wrestler, he has, together with hi& brother Bill, done much to foster the I sport among the young people. Dancing and musical items occupied the even?ng. Mr. Gus Voelkerling sang ' two songs. Major Gardiner presented I to the boys a token of the esteem in which they are held. Privates Brierly and Cole responded. Supper was supplied by the ladies, after which dancing continued till the early hours of the morning. The music for the evening was supplid by Messrs. Alf Awburn. Will Cole and Major Gardiner. RAETIHI WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. At lhe monthly meeting of the Raetihi Women’s Institute, lhe president. Mrs. Ward, presided over a meeting of members. It was decided to hold lhe annual picnic on Anniversary Day at the Camp site, to which all members’ husbands and their friends are cordially invited. It was decided to send a letter of sympathy to Mrs- Millen, Wanganui. the founder of lhe Raetihi Womens Institute, whose husband died recently. Mrs. Donnelly reported on the results of the Drama and Choir festival. the financial results of which were most satisfactory. The gesture of Mr. Webb in supplying a free bus to convey those taking part in the performance at Ohakune was fully appreciated and advantage was taken of the generous offer. Mrs. Ward called upon Mrs. Donnelly to accept a beautiful bouquet as an appreciation of her valuable work in the Drama Circle and Choir. As it was the last meeting of the year, a cake and bring and buy stall was arranged and brisk business was done by those in charge—Mesdames Hopkinson and Keningston. The winner of the Christmas pudding was Mrs Mahar and the baby's knitted coat and bonnet Miss Joyce West, Ruatiti. Competition winners were: Best child's lunch. Mrs- Salmond 1. Mrs. Hopkins 2, Mrs. Donaldson 3; thrift article, Mrs. Hopkins 1, Mrs. Ward 2; best bloom. Mrs. Honore 1, Mrs. Donaldson 2, Mrs. Salmond 3: best Xmas gift under 2s, Mrs. Hussey 1, Mrs Hopkins 2.
