FOXTON RACING CLUB

MEETING AT LEVIN PROSPECTS FOR TO-DAY For the second time within a year the Foxton Racing Club will have the Levin racecourse for a meeting, that beipg the spring fixture, set down for to-day. The change should be just as beneficial as it has been in the past, and with win-and-place betting the club should again be able to show a satisfactory totalisator turnover. Last year, when thg club reverted to Foxton after a lapse, the turnover was £21,356, against £18,4-0 in 1939 at Awapuni, and £12,295 10s at Foxton in 1938. The track at Levin invariably provides excellent going. The principal event is the Carnarvon Handicap, won last year by Pearl of Asia. At Marton last Saturday Meamea was second to Trench Law Piastre looks like plaing a part in the and should again go a good race, finish, and both The Monarch and Aurora's Star must be considered. Screen Star was beaten a neck by Night Eruption in the Robinson Handicap last year, and on his Marton form he should prove hard to beat today. Enrich has the class, and if Wings of Song were in the right mood he would have an excellent chance. White Rajah is a likely lightweight. The Trial Stakes should find the penalised Croupisino able to repeat his Marton performance, with Elusary and Eastern Sport likely to be prominent. Majority will be back to hurdling in the Paiaka Hurdles, and he should be able to account for Haile Selassie and Great Quex, with Colincamps a likely sort on the minimum. High Class impressed at Awapuni and probably will be preferred to Daljarrock and Sandy Bay in the Moutiti Hack Handicap. Miss Leighon won so convincingly at Marton that she should be able to carry topweight in the Wharangi Hack Handicap, in which Wildfire and Mountain Fox appear dangerous opponents. Winning form points to Red Dash and Arachne in the Awahou Hack Handicap, with All Bunsby a danger on his Marton display. Dual engagements are likely to affect prospects for the Moutoa Handicap. but if High Class starts he should be favourite over Miss Phaleron and Sweet Anne, with Race Away sure to be making the pace. Though Salvation, Young Charles and Miss Hallomet figure as acceptors they will not be manking the trip, says a Taranaki writer. The following appeal in their respective engagements: — Trial Stakes. —Croupisino, Elusary, Eastern Sport. Paiaka Hurdles. Majority, Haile Selassie, Great Quex. Motuiti Hack Handicap.—High Class, Sandy Bay, Daljarrock. Carnarvon Handicap.—The Monarch, Meamea, Piastre. Wharangi Hack Handicap. Miss Leighon, Wildfire, Mountain Fox. Robinson Handicap.—Screen Star, Enrich, Wings of Song. Awahou Hack Handicap.—Red Dash, Arachne, All Bunsby. Moutoa Hack Handicap.—High Class, Miss Phaleron, Sweet Anne. Following are the acceptors:— 12.00 TRIAL STAKES (Of £100; six furlongs.)

There was the best of reasons for believing that Cheddington would play an important part in the decision of the Farewell Hack Handicap at Marton, but the three-year-old failed to get in the money. So far Cheddington has not succeeded in winning a race, but he is a fine looking horse, and has been sparsely raced. Maybe before the season is out he will have proved himself a galloper of some ability.
