MR. SEMPLE’S OPPONENT
NATIONAL CANDIDATE FOR WELLINGTON EAST (Press Assn.) Wellington, Sept. 19. The Wellington East seat, which is held hy the Minister of National Service, Hon. R. Semple, is to be contested at the general election by Mr. L. T. Jacobsen, a Wellington business man, who was last night selected as the official National Party candidate. The meeting of between 50 and 60 delegates and many party members was held in the Taia Hall, Kilbirnie. The chairman of the Wellington division of the party, Mr. J. H. Mcllroy, presided. There were five nominations and Mr. Jacobsen was selected by a straight-out majority. Mr. Jacobsen was born in Hawke’s Bay of pioneer parents and farmed in southern Hawke’s Bay for some years before taking up a commercial career. For the past 12 years he has been in business in Wellington as a manufacturers’ representative. He is a married man aged 48, with three sons and three daughters. All the sons are serving with the Forces. Mr. Jacobsen has been actively associated with religious and social work in the city for some time.
