LIQUOR RAID MADE

SEIZURES BY POLICE AT OTOROHANGA Hamilton. Aug. 13. I Led by Senior-Sergeant A. G. McHugh, the first big police raid foi ’several years in the Waikato and King Country districts on premises suspected of illegal liquor sales lookplace recently, when premises ii. Otorohanga were raided. A largi party of police took part in (he raid and nine premises were visited. Under the control of Senior-Ser-geant McHugh and Sergeant H. Fryer. Frankton, several constables lef: Hamilton late in the afternoon. In Te Awamutu they were jtuied by Sergeant S. Clist ano one constable, ami in Otorohanga they were met by Sergeant R. Lean and three constables from Te Kuiti.

The party arrived in Otorohanga shortly before 3 p.m. and raided the mine places which were suspected ol sly-grog selling. The premises, from each of which liquor was taken, included a working men's club, a bag and bottle store, a shop, and dwelling houses A large amount of liquor, including beer and spirits, was seized and was removed by lorry to Te Kuiti. Otorohanga, being in ti.e Kini Country, is a prohibited area in which the sale of liquor is an offence under the Licensing Ad. reason. Wo want the evidence heard and considered by the committee. Will Correct An Injustice. Sergeant Cotterill said the Bill would correct an injustice imposed in 1913, an injustice- that stood out more to-day than then. Wanganui had an adequate secondary port, and the work done on the harbour had been largely successful and was of equal benefit to the farming and the city areas.

The Hon. J|. G. Cobbe (Opp., Manawatu) continued the debate until 5.30 p.m.
