JOINT GUARANTEE TO TURKEY
BRITAIN AND RUSSIA FULL AID IF COUNTRY IS ATTACKED London, Aug. 12. Britain and Russia have pledged lull aid io Turkey if she is attacked by a European power, in a joint declaration that has just been issued. The declarations were handed to the Turkish Government with assurances that neither power had desire to make aggressive claims and that they would observe scrupulously Turkey's territorial integrity. The British declaration stated that Britain would be prepared to render Turkey every assistance in the event of her being attacked by a European power, and stated that it was felt a reaffirmation of Britain’s attitude towards Turkey was desirable. Both declarations were warmly received in Turkey.—U.P.A. VON PAPEN TO CONFER WITH HITLER TURKEY MAY SIGN PACT WITH SOVIET (Recd. 11 p.m.) London, Aug. 12. The German radio says that Hitler has summoned the German Ambassador to Turkey. Herr von Papen, to Berlin for consultation. There is a general feeling in Loneor. that Turkey will sign a non-ag-gression trade pact with Russia.— U.P.A.
