MUSICIAN’S DEATH
MR. HERBERT COLLIER WELL KNOWN IN WANGANI 1 Well known in Wanganui, where he was in business for many years. Mr. Herbert Collier died at his residence, 3 Rees Street, on Tuesday. He was 84 years of age. Born in Manchester in 1857, Mr. Collier left London in 1878 by the sailing vessel Ben Voilick for Melbourne. He later came to New Zealand and subsequently settled in Wanganui, where he established the music business of H. Collier and Company, in partnership with his brother, the late Mr. Henry Collier. Mr. Herbert Collier was recognised as a very fine musician, and for more than 50 years was a member of the Wanganui Orchestral Society. He held the office of conductor, and later president, for many years. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ada Marion Collier, and three children. Mr. C. H. Collier, who is in business in New Plymouth, and Mrs. E. V. Spear (Palmerston North) and Mrs. R. D. Hine (Otorohanga). A service will be held in Christ Church, Wanganui, at 10 a.m. to-day. Interment will take place at the Karori Cemetery. Wellington.
