NO CASES FOR TRIAL

CEREMONY IN SUPREME COURT TO-DAY PAIR OF WHITE GLOVES FOR JUDGE For the first lime in 12 years, a pair of white gloves will be presented to the presiding judge when the quarterly session of the Supreme Court, Wanganui, opens this morning before Mr. Justice Johnston. No criminal cases are set down for trial, and there is only one prisoner for sentence, indicating that the judicial district of Wanganui has been practically free from crime during the past three months.

The occasion will be marked in lhe traditional way, and the registrar. Mr. C. O. Pratt, will present His Honour with the gloves. Though common jurors originally summoned to attend the session have been notified that their services will not be required, the Grand Jury will attend. Only once in a period of more than 20 years have white gloves b~en presented to the presiding judge in Wanganui. This was on November 12, 1929 when the registrar at the time. Mr. W. S. Jones, •presented to Mr. Justice McGregor. Older residents of the city who have been associated with the Supreme Court say that this is the only time they can recollect, white gloves having been presented to a judge in Wanganui
