BAGGED 17 VESSELS

BRITISH SUBMARINE’S SUCCESS London, July 28. One of Britain’s latest submarines has returned to port after bagging 17 enemy vessels, ranging from supply ships to caiques in two Mediterranean patrols announced in communiques recently. The commander narrated an incident before the sinking of the last ship from one German convoy. “I ordered the crew to the boats, or I would fire, hut I had to send a boarding party to rout them off,” he said. “A German tried to throw a ham! grenade as the men clambered over the ship’s side, but he was shot before it left his hand. Another Nazi tried to kill my No. 1 by rifle tire. He went the same way, and we then continued the patrol.”—U.P.A.
