PATRIOTIC GOLF TOURNEY. The following is the draw for the patriotic golf tourney to be played on the Raukura links to-morrow (Sunday) under the auspices of the Taihape Golf Club, the proceeds to be devoted to the town queen candidate:— 9 a.m., Somerville. A medal round will be played in the morning and a bogey match in the afternoon. There will' also be a ladies’ four-ball bogey in the afternoon. Private “Mick” Vincent, who is reported missing, is a son of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Vincent, Kaka Road, Taihape. He was educated in Taihape, and after leaving school he assisted his father at the municipal abattoirs, and was later employed at another abattoir. He enlisted at the outbreak of war and joined the 18th. Auckland Battalion, leaving New Zealand with the First Echelon. He was a keen sportsman, being particularly interested in swimming, football and hockey. He represented Waikato at hockey and played in competitions in Auckland in 1938-39. He represented the Taihape Amateur Swimming Club on many occasions, taking a prominent part in inter-club relay races. He served in Greece and Crete.

QUEEN CARNIV AL NOTES. INDOOR RACES AT HIWERA. Attention is drawn to an advertisement in this issue stating that indoor races and games will be held in Mr. J. T. Duncan's woolshed at Hiwera next Thursday night, July 24, in aid of the East Queen. All the fun of the fair will be offering and a very pleasant evening is anticipated. Patriotic Stock Drive. The patriotic stock drive held this week realised about £2600, including cash donations exceeding £3OO. The Western Queen will benefit to the extent of over £2OOO, while approximately £5OO goes to the Eastern Queen and the remainder to the Town Queen. The sale of stock was held on Wednesday, the Western Queens share of the proceeds being £1634 11s plus cash donations. The sale of stock on behalf of the Eastern Queen realised £499 4s 6d. The amount due to the Town Queen was not very large, but will nevertheless be a welcome addition to her funds. The sale was conducted by three stock firms, Dalgety and Co., N.Z. Loan and Mercantile, Abraham and William Ltd., who gave their services free. The cattle sales for the West Queen amounted to £1479 2s 6d and the sheep sales £155 9s 4d. Cattle, which realised £496 6s 6d, were sold on behalf of the East Queen, in addition to sheep which fetched £2 18s. The auctioneers were Messrs. M. Waldron (Abraham and Williams), S. Hintz (N.Z. Loan and Mercantile), A. Puklowski (Dalgety and Co.). Assisting at the sale were Messrs. H. C. Wilson (Dalgety and Co.), B. C. Fitzherbert and A. Fletcher (Abraham and Williams), W. Benson (N.Z. Loan and Mercantile). Voluntary droving was done by Messrs. J. Moore, C. Kelly, A. H. Dooli}, W. Welsh. Those assisting with the organisation of the stock drive and the collection of the cattle and sheep included the following:—Messrs. A. K. Overton, J. H. Marshall, F. Ward, C. Mickleson, A. Buckley, J. Bartosh, H. Bartell, R. Collier, F. Howie, J. Bremner, F. Ward, D. Broome.

Amongst the prices realised at the sale were the following:—Fat bullocks, £ll 2s, £ll, £9 13s, £9 Is, steers £8 13s, 2J-year steers up to £B, attractive line of 25 heifers £5 14s, and £5 12s 6d. Two bullocks for the Town Queen brought £5 15s each, hoggets 16s 6d, fat wethers up to 245, fat cows £8 2s 6d.

Western Fair. A big fair in aid of the Western Queen will take place in the Town Hall, Taihape to-day (Saturday) followed by a race meeting at night in the main hall and a dance in the supper rooms. A feature of the fair will be a cake competition which is arousing much interest amongst the womenfolk. Various stalls, games and competitions will be in evidence. Football Match. A football match will be played on the Oval Domain to-day between teams representing the Town and the East, the proceeds to be devoted to patriotic purposes. The town team will be selected from the following:— Howie, Reeves, McDonald, Greenstreet King (3), Glenny, Larsen, Smith, Nicholson, Betts, Leeth, Bremner, Hargreaves, Bond, Leary, Gostodnetich, Holm.
