FOOTBALL match In beautiful weather a very large crowd witnessed what proved to be the best game of football seen in Hunterville for a long time, when Wanganui Collegiate first fifteen played against a Hunterville fifteen on the local domain. Hunterville footbail fans always appreciate a good game of football, and Collegiate game them the goods in a bright, clean game. Collegiate won the game by 3—o, and were unlucky not to add at least three more points to their score, as one player, with a clear run, went over the dead ball line. Barton was the scorer for the school, but the kick at goal failed to raise the flags. For Collegiate, Meuli, Jones, Barton and Davies played outstandingly in the backs, while all the forwards played good football. For Hunterville Weston, Bartlett and Hammond were the pick of the backs, and Dillon and Carrol played well in the forwards. Mr. Ward, of Marton, was the referee.

Primary School Football Match As a curtain-raiser to the big match on Wednesday, the Hunterville and Marton Primary School teams met on the domain at 1-15 p.m. After a good game, Hunterville were the winners, by 9 ’points to 6, Hunterville’s points being made up by three unconverted tries, to Marion’s one unconverted try and a penalty kick. RATA PATRIOTIC SOCIETY AN ENTHUSIASTIC FAREWELL Leading-Aircraftman Roden P>ckI ford was accorded an enthusiastic send-off at the Rata Coronation Hall on Tuesday evening. There was a large attendance of residents of the district. . Mr. Chas. McManaway, president of the Rata Patriotic Society, making a presentation of a wallet to the guest and also an enlarged photograph, referred to the fact that his father (Ernest) and uncles (Job and Harry) had taken a part in the Great War. Mr. McManaway extended the wishes 1 of the society that Roden would have ■ a successful career and a safe return ! to New Zealand. Mrs. Renata, on behalf of the Rata Maoris presented a Maori tiki. 'lUnder the leadership of Mrs. Wereta, the Maoris sang the Maori farewell ' song in English and Maori. ' The • chairman also extended a 1 hearty welcome to Sergt.-Pilot Mo ' Nab, of Hunterville. MARTON RED CROSS Voluntary aids and intending aids are reminded that they are expected to attend a meeting at the training centre on Monday next. July 21, at 7.30 p.m. to make arrangements for the courses in home nursing which are due to begin during the coming week.
