He met his obligations fairly well until the end of June, 1940, when creditors began to press for payment of accounts and judgments were obtained against him. He was waiting to be called up for service in the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

The Official Assignee said he hat gone through the bank passbook verj carefully and could see no payment: which called for inquiry. The statement of accounts showed a big falling off in receipts in the last ten months. The Official Assignee was empowered to wind up the estate.
