KAITOKE CELEBRATES TENTH BIRTHDAY.
The Kaitoke Women's Institute celebrated its tenth birthday recently, the hall being decorated for the ' occasion with berries and greenery. ■ Mrs. Caldwell presided over a large ■ attendance of members. Also present were representatives of tre Wanganui Federation, who were presented with sprays, and visitors from Aramoho, Makirikiri and Mosston Institutes. ■ After the usual opening ceremony i business was dealt with and the prol gramme for the afternoon folj lowed. Mesdames Aitken, Tipper. ■ Minnell and Miss Cameron rendered two items, which were greatly appreciated and Mosston W.I. staged an amusing playette entitled “The Fami ily Group.” The hostesses served I afternoon tea. The birthday cake was kindly made and given by Mrs. Gillies, and iced by Mrs. Garner. Mrs. Shanks performed the ceremony of lighting the candles, Mrs. Garner Blew ' them out and the cake was cut by I Mrs. Gillies. The competition for coat hangers and savouries judged by Mrs. Stewart were won as follows: Coat hanger. Miss Aitken 1, Miss Scott 2; savocne', Mrs. Garner 1. Mrs. Clements judged i the dahlias, the awards beu g: Large dahlias, Mrs. Shanks 1 and 2; charm dahlias, Mrs. Shanks 1 and 2; pompom dahlias, Mrs. Shanks 1, Mrs. I White 2. Mrs. Garner expressed thanks to the performers and judges. The points competition for next month will be a piece of smocking, or three sausage rolls.
