GERMAN SEA WAR

FAMILIAR THREAT BY HITLER INTENSE U-BOAT CAMPAIGN IN MARCH AND APRIL MORE OUTPOURINGS FROM MUNICH BEER CELLAR IBy Tclsgraph—Frer« Association—Copyright | LONDON, Feb. 24 Hitler, in a speech at the Munich beer cellar, said: “We have been waiting for new Üboats. Our sea warfare will start in March and April on a scale that the enemy never expected. When our enemies ridicule German-Italian submarine co-operation they do not know what is in store for them, but they will know soon when our new type of submarines operate. “Many British warships are tied up in the Mediterranean, many British planes are tied up in North Africa, and many British land forces are also tied up and our sea warfare is onlyjust starting. "Two hours ago I received reports that German surface warships and Üboats sank 215.000 tons of shipping in two days, but the British have to be prepared for sterner things in March and April. We wanted to finish training crews in the new U-boats. Now, wherever British ships cruise, our Üboats will follow until the decisive hour. "I have taken on many democracies and enemies and have always been victorious. I am feeling fresher than ever because the spring is coming when we will be able to re-meas-ure our strength. Wherever we meet the British, in the Mediterranean, the North Sea. or the Atlantic, they will be ravaged by our Stukas (divebombers).” Hitler spoke for 21 hours, most of his speech being an historical review. He declared that National Socialism and Marxism were basically the same. His speech was often drowned bywaves of applause. Military bands thundering out martial airs whipped the audience into a frenzy of patriotic fervour to welcome him. APPEAL TO CANADA SEAD SHIPS AND FOOD GUARD THE SEA ROUTES OF BRITAIN ' [ British Official Wireless. I RUGBY, Feb. 24. The contribution which Canada could make to the war effort during the coming months of trial was outlined by the Minister of Aircraft Production, Lord Beaverbrook, in a broadcast to Canada. Lord Beaverbrook is a Canadian. He stressed Britain's danger in her north-western approaches. “There is no doubt that the enemy intends to attack us in our ocean pathways,” he said. “We shall be subjected to con-

stant raids on our shipping. There will be ceaseless attacks under and over the seas. The battle will be long and bloody. The toll of tonnage will be heavy, too. And this is where Canada can bring relief to the beleagured citadel. "You look to a route directly from the rivers and harbours of Canada through the pathway to the harbours of Britain. And you can make good the-north-west approaches. That can be your charge. “Help, then, to supply cargoes. Help to send food and weapons of war. Help to furnish crews. Devote your labours to providing armour of battle. Gather together every kind of transport by sea which will enable us to continue the defence of this island. Seek the whole world over for ships. Make our sea paths safe during the Battle of Britain.”
