AUSTRALIA’S WAR EFFORT

“BETTER THAN CANADA’S” BELIEF OF CANADIAN POLITICAL LEADER. Received Feb. 25, 9.20 p.m. OTTAWA, Feb. 23. The Conservative leader, Mr. R. B. Hanson, criticising the Government, said that Australia’s war effort was much greater proportionately than Canada's. He instanced the achievements of the Royal Australian Air Force and the Royal Australian Navy, which he asserted showed a discrepancy between the efforts of sister dominions. “Moderate participation in a conflict has never been the policy of Australia,” he said. “That is why she is doing things so well to-day. She is well under way.” Hanson expresed the highest praise for Australia’s Army, which had proved itself “the striking power of the Empire.” He added: “I heartily congratulate her.”
