AWAPUNI TRACK WORK

SEMI-FINAL GALLOPS FOR WOODVILLE RIDING ENGAGEMENTS Except for a ground mist which hid the three furlong peg for part of the time the conditions were ideal at Awapuni yesterday morning, when horses engaged at Woodville were given their semi-final gallops. The course proper was in demand for fast work, the flags were about 30 feet out, and the going was good. L. G. Morris’ horses were among the first to work, and Hunting Lore (B. H. Morris) and Rhodes (B. i’oung) were responsible for a good effort over seven ip 1.36 4-5. Kotua (B. H. Morris) worked over six on her own in 1.22 and it was quite an attractive gallop. Myario, who is improving steadily, was just in front of Tau-uru at the end of seven run in 1.37, and they ettme home in 42. Foxiana (Morris) ran an easy five in 1.12, and Old Surrey (P. Rae) sprinted six, the last five in 1.10. Caution (G. R. Tattersail), in his first fast work for some time, moved well in a scamper down the straight in 251scc. Gold Bridge (Tattersall) and Colonel Bogey (J. Pratt) were together in front of Flying High (S. Anderson) at the end of seven run in 1.36 4-5, and they broke 42 for the last three. The Ringmaster colt and Sea Quex could not be timed over three, but they were going smoothly at the finish, and the same can be said of Wildfire and Fly by Night. Best Five of the Morning. Premature (B. H. Morris) was responsible for the fastest five of the morning, and in running the distance in 1.16 she was a coupie of lengths clear of Stairway (C. A. Bowry). Last Acre (Morris) covered three in 43Jsec., but he would not gallop. The sister of Par Avion (Tattersall) sprinted three in 40sec.; Drake's Drum and Stirling Lad broke 39sec., and Cheetah (E. Temperton) ran three in 38 4-5. Half Crown (Anderson) and Greek Step (Tattersall) were on terms at the end of four in 54sec. and War Credit (Morris) and Colibri (Tattei sail) recorded the same time in a similar task. High Morale (J. Williamson) alone ran half a mile in 54 2-ssec., but Cherry Bay , (Anderson) and Squeers (R. B. Ireland) cut the distance out in 52 4-ssec. Pitmark (Morris) and Greek Step (Williamson) were in front of Jeanne (Tattersall) at the end of six in 1.214. They began quickly and they ran the last three in 42sec.

Prattler (Anderson) and Taitama (Ireland) ran four in 54 3-ssec.; Civilian (Williamson) and March Easy (Tattersall) were clear of Manahau (Morris) at the end of five in 1.9»2-5, and Moradabad (M. Bowden: worked steadily over seven in 1.38 3-5. Old Bill was restricted to light exercise and he improved as he warmed up. Riding Engagements. Riding engagements for Woodville have been announced as under:— B. I-I. Morris: Lambourn, Mittie. Last Acre, Pinochio and Golden Moon. G. R. Tattersall: Old Bill, Jumna, Talenta, Fleche d’Or, Newbury Queen and Gold Bridge, S. Anderson: Drake's Drum and Moradabad. J. Williamson: Colonel Bogey and Star Zone. E. Temperton: Royal Zone.
