HITHER AND THITHER
Bottling Fruit Demonstration. A feature of the free gas cooking demonstration to take place to-mor-row afternoon, will be fruit bottling. Airs. Bate, the demonstrator, will show the method of preserving fruit in the gas oven and at the same time cook luncheon dishes, cakes and other delectable eatables. Housewives should take advantage of this demonstration, timed for 2.30 p.m., February 14, in the Gas Department's Demonstration Hall. A Presentation.
Miss L. Wilks, who has been a member of the commercial stall ol the “Chronicle” for the past twelve years and is leaving to be married, was farewelled at a gathering held last evening and presented with a dinner set from the management and staff. In making the presentation, the manager, Mr. L. C. Young, in a happy speech, spoke of the nigh esteem in which Miss Wilks was held. He wished her every happiness possible and extended best wishes for the future. He hoped the gift would remind her of the many happy years she had spent at the "Chronicle." Miss Wilks returned thanks for the good wishes and gift.
Army, Navy and Air Force Fair. Next Thursday evening, at 7.30 p.m., the committee o£ the Lady Galway Guild will hold the ouV >r function which had to be piAtp-ned from November 23 on account of unfavourable weather. The fete will be held on Cook's Gardens and should attract a large crowd. The children's fancy dress parade, as.planned for the previous fete, will take plact The prizes offered for the three * classes—best costume for boys, best costume for girls, and also tiny tots —are 10s for first prize, photograph second, and' 5s for third. The programme includes items by pupils of the Girls’ College. Collegiate School Band, Technical College Band and Y.M.-Y.W.C.A.
Parcels for Wanganui Airmen. Women members of the Wanganui Aero Club met on Tuesday night at the home of Miss Shirley Gilbert, Somme Parade, when a busy time was spent packing parcels tor members of the club serving overseas-Twenty-one parcels were packed, each containing a tin of tongues and a tin of fruit salts. Letters of appreciation from recipients of parcels were read, and supper was served by the hostess. Among those present were Mesdames J. Strachan, A. Tasker, J. Takarangi, H. O. Larking, and Misses Ora Jones and Lenva McGahan.
