PATEA HOSPITAL BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING HELD (Own Correspondent). PATEA, Feb. 12. The ordinary meeting of the Patea Hospital Board was held yesterday, Mr. C. R. Honeyfield presiding. Mrs. A. A. Carey, R. J. Watt, H. Middleton, Back, Gibbs, Campbell, Watkins and Lupton were also present. The resignations of Misses Mitchell, Wallace, and Ennis were received and accepted. The Hospital Board’s Association wrote stating that it had been decided that the annual conference be postponed.—Received. The balance-sheet for 1940 was received from the Auditor-General without tags. The medical superintendent reported as follows: Patients in hospital on January 1, 32, admitted 90, discharged 70, died 2, remaining in hospital January 31, 50. The matron reported that December ■ and January had been busy months and the daily average of occupied; beds had been between 40.3 and 47.1' for December and January as against i 34.4 and 30.5 in • the corresponding I months of the last war. Miss E. Mitchell commenced duty” on December 3, and Miss Negus on| December 10. Miss V. Sheild com-1 menced duty as staff nurse on January 16, and Miss J. Borrie recommenced duty on January 13. Miss A. Illingworth has also commenced duty.

A letter was received from the Wanganui Hospital Board stating that the Patea hospital had been grouped with Wanganui and asked that representatives from the board be appointed to attend a meeting to be held in Wanganui on the 13th inst. The clerk said it had been suggested that a meeting be held in’Hawera, but so far he had heard no further about the meeting. A letter was read from the Waverley Home Guard stating that lorries and drivers had been arranged for in the event of an emergency, and also a dressing station with 20 beds in the

Waverley Town Hall. The equipment of the dressing station had been arranged for. It was suggested that the Board adopt the local scheme and that an emergency hospital with 45 beds, be established in Waverley. Mr. Watt said members of the board should confer with the Waverley committee. Mr. Campbell stated that cooking and heating arrangements had been made as far as the emergency hospital was concerned. It was decided that Messrs. Lupton and Campbell represent the board on the Waverley Emergency Precautions Committee. It was also agreed that the members have full authority to act in any emergency. It was also decided to approve the action of the Waverley Emergency Precautions Committee with regard to the emergency hospital scheme, and the endeavour to get the department’s approval of the scheme. It was decided that Mrs. A. A. Carey. Messrs. Gibbs, Watt and the chairman be a committee to confer with the medical superintendant with regard to the emergency hospital in Patea. Accounts were read and passed for payment and the committee rose.
