TURAKINA MAORI GIRLS’ COLLEGE

MEETING OF COMMITTEE AT MARTON

A meeting of the local committee of the Turakina Maori Girls’ College was held at the college, Marton, on Tuesday afternoon. The chairman, the Rev. T. H. Burton, presided over a good attendance of representatives from various parts of the Presbytery. The chairman expressed the pleasure of the committee at having the staff and pupils back for another year, and extended a welcome to the new pupils. The principal, Miss E. M. Kinross, reported that all the students who had sat for the public examinations last year had passed. The chairman congratulated the students and the staff upon their success.

The chief business wps that of making preparations for the garden party to be held on Presbytery day in April to raise funds for the Centennial Memorial Chapel to be opened in 1944. Mrs. Norrie, on behalf of the Women’s Missionary Union, reported on arrangements made thus far for the various stalls. Detailed plans were made whereby helpers from all parts would be able to assist. An entsztainment will be given during the afternoon by the college girls and provision will be made for «ervirig luncheon and afternoon tea. It was decided to invite the Moderator of the General Assembly, the Right Rev. G. H. Jupp, to Open the gathering as it is expected he will be passing through about that time.

Representatives were urged to encourage people in their congregations to send forward regular supplies of produce to the college, especially during the winter months.
