MINISTERIAL VISIT

LABOUR PARTY ANNUAL PICNIC MILITARY CAMP INSPECTED Accompanied by the Mayor, Hon. W. J. Rogers, M.L.C., and Mr. J. B. Cotterill, M.P. for Wanganui, the Minister of Defence, Hon. F. Jones, inspected the military camp in Wanganui on Saturday. The party was conducted round the camp by Major J. McAlister, M.C. Later they visited the Labour Party picnic at Aramoho Park, where Mr. Jones praised the war effort which was being made by the people of Wanganui and district. Also present at the picnic were Mr. J. Roberts (Wellington), a member of the Waterfront Control Commission, Mr. F. L. Frost, M.P. for New Plymouth, Mr. J. J. Scott, deputy-Mayor of Wanganui, Mr. R. P. Andrews, secretary of the Wanganui Labour Representation Committee, and Mr. F. Gould, president of the Federation of Labour. The Minister, who was accompanied by Mrs. Jones, returned to Wellington late on Saturday afternoon.
