WEATHER FORECAST
Meteorological Office, Wellington, Sunday, February 9, 4 p.m. General Situation.—A cyclonic depression passed over Southland last night and is moving away rapidly in a south-easterly direction. Pressure is relatively high over the remainder of the area. Forecast.—Winds: Moderate to fresh south-westerly to westerly prevailing. Seas: Rather rough to rough south of Cape Egmont and the East Cape, but decreasing; otherwise slight or moderate, but considerable southerly swell on the east coast. Eastern Tasman Sea: Fresh but decreasing winds from a westerly quarter, and rather rough but moderating seas. Weather: For the most part fair to fine. Cloudy, however, in the far north and passing showers in western and southern areas of the South Island. Temperatures mild in the north, moderate in the south. The New Zealand Friends’ School. St. John’s Hill, reports as follows for 24 hours ending 6 p.m. yesterday; Hours of sunshine, 5 hours 10 minutes. Rainfall, .04 inches. Maximum temperature, 80deg. Fahr.; minimum temperature. 63deg. Fahr. Time of sunset to-day, 7.33 p.m. Time of sunrise to-morrow, 5.38 a.m. Phases of the Moon for February.—First Quarter.
