DEATH OF PIONEER
MRS. JANET WALLACE LINK WITH EARLY DAYS The death has occurreu of Mi.-. Janet Wallace, aged 86 years. Foi more than 55 years sho resiaed a. Riversdale (Southland). Born in Edinburgh in 1854 she came to New Zealand with her parents, Mr. ar. i Mr. Guthrie, in the ship City of Dunedin, landing at Port Charmers in January, 1860. Mr. and Mrs. Guthrie took up land at Otokia, where Mijjs Guthrie married Mr. Andrew Wallace. The young couple later removed to Wantwood Station, but later went to reside at Riversdale, where she resided up to the time of her death. Mrs. Wallace was noteq lor nei generous hospitality, and no good cause lacked her sympathetic assistance. With ner death the Presbyterian Church hag lost one of its staunchest supporters. Her faithful and regular attendance was admired by all. Her husband predeceased her 30 years ago. I’he funeral was one of ths largest held in the district. Mrs. Wallace is survived by four sons and two daughters. They are Messrs. W. Wallace (Waihola), A. Wallace (Sydney), J. Wallace (Christchurch), and N. Wallace (Wanganui), Mrs. Hollingworth (Dunedin), and Mrs. Chesney (Riversdale).
