FARMING PROBLEMS
SHORTAGE OF LABOUR DISCUSSION NEXT WEEK The question of adequate and suitable farm labour being made available will be discussed in Wanganui on Wednesday, when a meeting, under the auspices of the Wanganui Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, is held in the Jockey Club's rooms, St. Hill Street, at 3 p.m. The recently-appointed liaison officer of the Employment Division, National Service Department, Mr. S. G Smith, will be the speaker. Representatives of the Farmers’ Union, Wanganui A. and 'P. Association. Primary Production Council, Manpower Committee and Labour organisations will attend.
Mr. T. Currie (Brunswick), president of the Wanganui Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers' Union, will preside. The question of adequate and suitable farm labour has been prominent in discussions at all meetings of farmers during the past year or so. The matter has gained considerable importance throughout the Dominion. Mr. Smith has had a wide experience in national affairs for many years, and is well versed in the subject. It is expected that his address will be of considerable interest to farmers.
