£350 FOR ROMNEY RAM

The high prices paid for Romney rams at the recent stud sales at Solway and Feilding were exceeded last week when the Te Kuiti breeder, Mr. W. W. Johnstone, paid £350 for an outstanding one-shear ram bred by Mr. J. G. Alexander, in his Cranleigh stud at Maxwell. The sale was made through the agency of Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd. The ram in question, Cranleigh No.

181/39, has a splendid head, and a great carcase carried on short legs, while his even fleece of about 46’s quality is very thick on the skin. He is of very aristocratic lineage, as his sire, Cranleigh 532/37, is a great breeding son of Cranleigh 228/34, whose progeny have been used in leading studs throughout the country. His dam is by Waio X 13/32, who is a triplet ram by the famous Waiorongomai sire, R 89/30, from a matron at Waiorongomai which also produced the great stud ram, "Gentleman.”
