SETTLEMENT BREAKS DOWN

WILL NOT RACE FOR SOME TIME Settlement pulled up so lame a furlong from home in the Midsummer Handicap at Riccarton last Saturday, that it was thought he had suffered a broken leg, but it was found that lie had a serious breakdown. He was later led home to his stable, and it will probably be some time before he will be seen in public again. At the time of the mishap, Settlement was going unusually well and looked like being the first to challenge Gay Parade.
