TRADE UNION BOSSES
VIEWS OF IHE OPPOSITION LEADER MR. S. G. HOLLAND EMPHATIC 111 the course o£ his address at Taihape this week, the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. S. G. Holianu referred to the trade union "bossocraey ’ as the dictators behind tne Government for ever sowing the seeds of oissens.on, the country being governed largeiy by people whose oniy success in me was m destroying the success of others. Those people were going to nave a “mighty thin time ’ u.ieii a Government came to power that consisted ot men who had made a success of then own aftairs. “AU weenjoy comes to us through hard work,' Mr. Holland continued, “so let us aglee that we cannot enjoy prosperity that we have not fairly earned. The greatest urge to efficiency is the profit motif.’’ The speaker went on to taik of the “six cunning steps" in the Government's scheme of socialisation. The first step was to fix prices, the second to increase costs so that the third step, a subsidy, became an essential followed, fourthly, by the Government taxing over an industry as had been done in the case of flax-growing, fruit-cropping and others. As the fiftn step a compulsory loan was introduced exceeding actual income and stating a process of deflation which led to slump. The import selection policy was introduced as a filial blow' to private enterprise and, even if it were possible to get goods, the money to pay for them was not available. That system was stated, by Mr. Holland as being tantamount to Nazism. Thus “God's own country has been got into the devil's own mess” and it was the job of the National Party to get the country out of that mess. Some 40,000 or 50.000 men to-day were out of production on war service and those who were left would have the building of a paradise for heroes on their return by working a little harder, a little longer and more scientifically.
