NEWS FROM BULLS

THE HOME GUARD. This week’s meeting of the Bulls Home Guard was well attended, approximately 160 members parading,, while 14 new members were enrolled. Classes 1 and 2 were put through more advanced drill in the Town Hall, and on Monday next the parade will be held on the Domain. Class 3 again listened attentively to a lecture on first aid. Both the drill instructor and the lecturer came from the R.N.Z. Air Force at Ohakea, and their STffices were greatly appreciated. WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. The monthly meeting of the Bulls Women’s Institute was held on February 3, Mrs. Huddleston presiding. Apologies were received from the president (Mrs. Jackson) and the hon. secretary (Mrs. Vile). The annual meeting will be held on March 3, and members are reminded to send in their nominations by February 20. Letters were read from our boys overseas, who acknowledged receipt of institute parcels, and expressed appreciation of them. Mrs. Hoffman and Miss M. Woods kindly judged the competitions, results being as follow: —Best bloom: Mrs. Doughty 1. Mrs. G. Ellery 2, Mrs. S. Howard 3. Antirrhinums: Mrs. W. Ellery 1, Mrs. Huddleston 2, Mrs. S. Howard 3. Bottle of flowers: Mrs. Jurgens 1, Mrs. W. Ellery 2, Mrs. Witherington 3. FAREWELL DANCE. On Tuesday evening the Town Hall was well filled when a farewell dance was tendered to Miss C. Wilson, who is leaving shortly to undertake war work on the other side of the world. On behalf of the Bulls District Patrio - tic Committee, Mr. J. E. Walker handed Miss Wilson a suitable gift, which carried with it the best wishes of a wide circle of friends, and Mrs. Hatch, on behalf of the Bulls branch of St. John Ambulance, also made a present to Miss Wilson, who had taken an active part in the branch’s activities. Dancing was kept up until a late hour, and the ladies’ committee provided a first-class supper.
