A Christian pacifist, Trevor George Purves, Petone, appealed on the; ground of conscientious objection be-] torce the No. 4 Armed Forces Appeall Board in Wellington. For 12 years, he said, he had be-J longed to the Methodist Bible Classi movement and to the Methodist | Church of New Zealand, which had| puolicly stated that war was con-1 trary to the spirit and purpose of Christ. lie was prepared to do alternative service not under military control. The appeal was allotted subject to appellant doing alternative service under clause 8 of the regulations, at the direction of the Minister of National Service. Under this clause the Minister may direct members of the reserve to perform services, other than in the armed forces, which they are capable of doing.
