WOMAN’S DESPERATE ACT
LEAP THROUGH WINDOW NARROW ESCAPE FROM DEATH. [ Pei - Precis Association. ] AUCKLAND. Feb. 5. While detectives were searching her room to-night, a young woman threw! herself through the open w.Lidow on , Lhe second storey of a house in Shortland Street and fell nearly 20 feet on to the lootpath below, injuring her back and suffering hurts which necessitated her removal to the Auckland Hospital. Her condition is not serious. According to the available facts the ’ young woman, who is aged 21. was ; being questioned concerning the theft, i of certain articles from a city shop. I During the past three weeks, as is customary in such cases, the police patron was present, while two detectives searched her room. Before they could prevent it, she suddenly ran to Ihe window and flung herself out. Her cries roused the household from their evening meal, and when they went to the side of the house they found her lying on The garden path, apparently seriously hurt. The ambulance took her to the hospital. She narrowly escaped death, since a large rock immediately below her window was only few inches from j where her head lay on the path. 1
