ROYAL CHIEF GOES WELL CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 11. Some instructive work was done at Riccarton this morning by horses engaged at Trentham. The plough was the track in use, and among loose to perform well were Royal Cniel, Winning Rival, Wardress, Density, Doria, Gentility, and Pleading. Royal Chief had Winning Rival as a companion over seven funongs, and they were together throughout in Imin. 28 3-ssec., the last hali-mile in 51 3-ssec. Wardress run the same distance alone in Imin. 28 45sec., the last half-mile in 52 3-ssec. Density was again responsible for a smart half-mile m 48 i-sser. King s Toast took 49sec. Monetary and Palfrey required 49 4-ssec. Grey Night ran live furlongs in Imin. 4 3-ssec., and Trench Fight covered the distance in Imin. 5 2-ssec. Doria and Gentility went six furlongs in Imin. 16 2-ssec., and Iceland Spar took Imin. 16 4-ssec. Lord Midas, not extended, required Imin. 19 3-ssec. Omapo and Stylish did the journey together in Imin. 16 3-ssec. Pleading sprinted three furlongs up the back in 36 2-ssec. Wild Fox took 38sec. <sown the straight, and Bird of Prey took 39 2-ssec. Willow Wood equalled Pleading’s time. Further tiding engagements of Riccarton horses are-: —C. T. Wilson, Wardress; P. Spratt, Density; D. Corboy, King's Toast; A. Messervy, Schoolgirl.
