HOME GUARD APPLICATION

WANGANUI COUNTY COUNCIL DECISION. A decision to supply petrol to instructors of the Home Guard who are attending parades of the Guard in the; county was made at the monthly j meeting of the Wanganui County Council yesterday. The offer followed a request by Captain A. W. Larsen, I staff officer of the Home Guard. i Units of the Guard have been eslab-1 iished at Kakatahi, Parikino, Okoia, j and Fordell. Instructors will be given an order to draw petrol from the council depot. | Permission will be sought from the; Oil Fuel Contiol Committee to issue! the petrol. i Those present at the meeting were j Mr. A. H. Collins (chairman), ami Crs. T. Mitchell, J. Todd, A. Rice, W. Craig. J. Marumaru, and L. A. Mackintosh.

Road Improvements. The engineer, Mr. R. R. Dawson, ' reported tnat on No. 50 Highway pre-; paratlon work was being made and j sealing would be started immediately. | On the Wangaehu Valley Road metali repairs between Aranui and Mt. View I nad been finished and the road was in fair condition. Good progress was being made with the building of the Wangaehu Valley Road deviation contract. It was ex-' pected that access would be made available early next month. Meta, maintenance repairs on the upper end of the road would be started this month and grit would be obtained from Greave’s pit. On Field’s Track metal repairs had; been made for the time being and further repairs would be made before; the winter months. The Matahiwi Road had been open-, ed for seasonal traffic, and the Morikau and Otaranoho roads were also in ' fair order. Metal repairs have been • made on the Makirikiri and Kaiwhaikl 1 roads, which are in good condition.; Building work will be started immediately on the No. 3 Line. Comprehen-, sive metal repairs were being made 1 on the No. 3 Line extension. On Kaitoke roads general maintenance work had been carried out.
