AOTEA DISTRICT PATRIOTIC ASSOCIATION

I A dance and euchre was held re- | cently at Ratana Pa by Ratana mem- | bers of the Aotea District Patriotic I Association, in aid of association I funds. The sum of £7 was realised i and two competitions are yet to be I drawn. Donations were given as fol- , lows: Mr. King, Bridge Bowser, 5s 6d; ' Mr. G. Harris, ss; Mrs. W. Ernia, jam; I Mrs. Taiaroa, euchre prizes and kits; | flax baskets from Wharepi. Prizes I for the Monte Carlos and competiI tions were donated. A brief speech was given by Mr. Tirikatene, M.P., I who, on behalf of Mrs. Taiaroa, rep- : resentative member of the association, thanked the people for their Cooperation in supporting the worthy cause for both pakehas and Maoris abroad. He also apologised for the absence of Mr. T. H. Ratana. M.P.. owing to ill health; also Mrs. Ratana. The guests of the evening, Seamen McLachlan and Spencer Bryant, of Wanganui, and Seaman Eddie Brown, of Opotiki. were farewelled at the function and presented by Mrs. Taiaroa with envelopes containing money. The recipients expressed thanks for the gifts, and also thanked Mr. Tirikatene for bestowing good wishes to them and for the enjoyable evening.

SOCIAL AND PERSONAL , Mrs. A. Williams, Marton, was a | recent visitor to Hastings.

Mrs. H. Heenan, Wellington, visited Wanganui during the week-end.

Mrs. G. Carter, Wanganui, has left for Auckland, where she will spend a few days before leaving on a trip to North Auckland.

Mrs. A. Dunn, Mrs. G. Kingscote and Mrs. N. Rattray were Christchurch visitors to Wanganui for the week-end. Mrs. Faber, senr., of New Plymouth spent the week-end in Wanganui.

Miss Pat Board, of Porangahau, Hawke’s Bay, who has been visiting Marton, has returned home. Mrs. John Duncan, of “Hiwera,” Taihape, has had as her guest her sister, Miss Maisie Bell, of Feilding.

Mrs. D. Lethbridge, New Plymouth, visited Wanganui for the Collegiate School break-up.

Mrs. A. G. Howartson. Wellington, has returned home after visiting Wanganui.

Mrs. J. Lloyd, Wellington, is the guest of Mrs. S. E. Lloyd. Fordell. She . will later take up residence in Wanganui, where her husband has accepted an appointment.

engagements McMillan —Congreve The engagement is announced of Charlotte Lavinia Hazel, eldest daughter of Mr. and the late Mrs. J. B. Congreve, Wanganui, to Donald, only son of Mrs. J. Allen, Marton, and the late Mr. McMillan.

CROQUET

RETURN VISIT OF PALMERSTON PLAYERS A team of croquet players from Palmerston North made a return visit to Wanganui on Saturday, December 14, to play an inter-association match with the Wanganui Association representatives. The lawns were in good order and some good play was witnessed by many enthusiastic onlookers. Wanganui were the winners by 7 games to 2. Results are as follow, Palmerston players being mentioned first: —
