ENJOYABLE SMOKE CONCERT

GOLD LYRES PRESENTED The Wanganui Male Choir concluded its 1940 season last night with a very enjoyable smoke concert, at which a large attendance of active members was presided over by Mr. S. Kendall, president. During the evening gold lyres for ten years’ service were presented to Mrs. F. Cunningham. Mr. F. W. Slater and Messrs. S. Kendall, F. Emmett, W. Goddard, G. P. Williamson and W. H. Bird. Prior to partaking of supper, the choir sang “Waltzing Matilda” and “Beleaguered.” Other items were: “Shipmates O’ Mine” and “The Lora is My Light” (Mr. J. D. Tizard); “On Wings of Song” and “O, My Beloved Daddy” (Mr. Cunningham); “Old Woman” by a quartet comprising Messrs. W. Healey. J. McDougall, W. Goddard and J. Walker; “Land ol the Fern and Tui,” by a quartet comprising Messrs. D. McLisky, J. Healey, R. Smith and F. Emmett; “Waltzing Matilda,” by quartet comprising Messrs. R. Foster. L. F. Edwards, S. Kidd, and C. Pearcy; and “The Great Adventure" and “I Love the Moon” (Mr. Bailey Martin). A pleasing evening concluded with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.”
