OHAKUNE NOTES
AIR FORCE RECRUIT FAREWELLED (Own Correspondent.) OHAKUNE, Oct. 14. A very pleasant evening was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. Laurie, Egmont Street, recently when friends from far and near gathered to bid farewell to Mr. A. Laurie, who has now left for Levin military camp, where he has joined the Air Force. The evening was spent with cards, competitions and musical items. A dainty supper was served, the tables and sitting room being decorated with bowls of spring flowers, a beautiful cake iced with blue and white and decorated with small planes and the Union Jack took place of honour, this being the artistic work of Mrs. S. Southern. The cake was cut by the guest of honour and usual toasts honoured. Mr. R. Peploe, in a few well chosen words, asked Mr. Laurie to accept a money belt from his friends and expressed the wish that it would bring him luck and serve to remind him and his friends who, one and all, wished him the best ann a safe return. Other speakers endorsed these remarks.
The singing of “Auld Lang Syne’’ brought tlie happy evening to a close.
