SUCCESSFUL FIXTURES
RANGITIKEI HUNT CLUB RACE MEETING AND POINT-TO-POINT r Keen satisfaction at the success > which attended the Rangitikei Hunt ; Club’s recent steeplechase meeting al I the Marton racecourse was expressed ; at a meeting of the general commit- ; tee on Friday. A substantial prolit i was disclosed, the totalisator revenue : being £1866 7s 6d, of which £849 18s , goes to the State under taxation. A small loss, it was reported, was ■ incurred over the point-to-point ! steeplechase meeting held the follow-I ing week. Considering that all farm- I ers over whose property the hounds i had hunted during the season were I issued with complimentary tickets and j the free afternoon tea was an extra ’ feature, members were surprised that ! the loss was so small. Mr. F. McLean referred to the very favourable comments he had heard from all sides on the sumptuous afternoon tea provided, and he complimented the ladies on their great efforts. Other members concurred.
Those present at the meeting were Messrs. L ,T. McLean (chair), J. Brice, K. McK. Duncan, P. W. Briant, J. D. Simpson, R. K. Simpson, A. T. Gatrell, J. A. H. Dick, W. W. Wilson, F. McLean, F. H. Dexter, H. G. Briant and Miss F. L. Way, secretary. The report of Messrs. J. R. L. Stanford and H. J. D. McManaway, delegates to the Racing Conference, was read and received.
In acknowledging £lOO for the use of the course and appointments at the recent steeplechase meeting, Mr. H. J. D. McManaway, president of the Marton Jockey Club, congratulated the Hunt Club on their very successful meeting and the initiative shown in introducing win-and-place betting system.
It was decided to present to the Marton Jockey Club two turnstiles at a cost of £26 6s Bd. A donation of £3 3s was made tc the Marton St. John Ambulance Brigade, members speaking eulogistical!;, of their good work at both the race meeting and the point-to-point fixture

ary services, Mr. Alan Seymour veterinary surgeon, the course com mittee of the Marton Jockey Club, an< Mr. L. H. S. Marshall for the use o his property over which the steeple chases were held. The Marton Municipal Band wa voted £lO 10s for their services at th< race meeting. The Kennels Committee were em powered to make necessary improve ments to the kennels property am buildings.
A hearty vote of thanks was extended to the ladies who arranged the catering r.t the point-to-point. Letters of appreciation are to be sent to all honorary officials and donors of trophies. Bonuses were granted to Miss F. L Way, secretary, Mr. A. Goodwin huntsman, and Mr. A. Way for assistance rendered. The chairman spoke in appreciative terms of the fine wprk accomplished by the secretary in con-
nection with the race meeting and point-to-point fixture. It was decided to ask the Marton Jockey Club if it could see its way clear to erect a permanent steeplechase course with “live” fences, the Hunt Club offering plants sufficient for four hedges.
