WESTMERE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the above was held in the church on the evening of the 29th. inst. Rev. A. H. Norrie presided over a representative gathering from the several districts associated. There was a number of apologies owing to the prevalent colds. The session report, compiled by Mr. W. J. Cooper, session clerk, recorded an increase in the communion roll in spite of the fact of some removals and numerous deaths. Mention was made of the great loss sustained by the passing away of Mesdames James Reid and I. Feist, and sympathy was expressed to their relatives and also those of the late Miss Snelling and Messrs. T. Alexander, C. E. Billinghurst, Gregor Martin, J. Laing, and F. W, Smith, the latter having been the first honorary secretary and treasurer of the Kai Iwi mission station. The session had lost the valuable help, by removal from the district, of Mr. H. Mackintosh, but Mr. W. Chesswas had been ordained to fill the vacancy. Gratitude was expressed to the many ministers and laymen who had so efficiently helped the minister in his preaching services and also to the respective organists in the several preaching places. The P.W.M.U. report, read by Mrs. Meads, detailed how the ladies of the congregation had been working steadily and progressively for the missionary cause. The Bible Class and Sunday School reports showed that these organisations were being efficiently and encouragingly prosecuted. The congregational balance-sheet showed, for the first time in several years, a credit balance, this being due mainly to the paying off of the church debt. A new motor-car had been purchased, which had proved economical, efficient and comfortable. On the motion of Mr. W. Morrison, of Maxwell, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the ladies and all who had worked and helped in connection with the work of the church, special mention being made to the capable efforts of the honorary secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. G. Cooper, who -vas unable to be present owing to a severe cold. The present committee mas reelected to office.
