HAWERA WEDDING
FITZGERALD—SMITH At St. Joseph’s Church, Hawera, on July 10 Jessie Ann, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Smith,'of “Craigowan,” Maxwell, was married to Cornelius Bernard, younger son of Mr. and the late Mrs. J. Fitzgerald, Hawera. The Rev. Father F. Wall, S. performed the ceremony and celebrated Nuptial Mass. Mrs. W. A. Quin officiated at the organ, and Mr. T. Uhlenberg sang “Ave Maria” and “O Sanctissima." The church was beautifully decorated in pink tonings by the Sisters of St. Joseph. The bride, who was escorted by her brother, Mr. Gordon Smith, wore a gown of rich magnolia satin. The bodice was beautifully pin-tucked and featured the new heart-shaped neckline edged with lace pleating and finished witth a spray ol: orange blossom. The sleeves were full to the elbow with pin-tuckling forming to a point and then fitting to the waist, where they were fastened with a row of small satin buttons, tapering over the hands. The skirt, which was pointed in front, fell in folds to form an oval train, finished with a large lover’s knot. A beautiful embroidered magnolia tulle veil fell in sculptural folds from a halo of orange blossom to form a second train, and a shower bouquet of winter roses, white chrysanthemums, glory of the snow asparagus, and maidenhair fern with cream satin streamers, was carried. A double string of pearls finished her toilette.
As maids in attendance Misses Mary Smith and Patricia Bradley, of Waverley, sister and cousin of the bride respectively, were frocked in love-in-the-mist blue, and rose pink rippled chiffon over taffeta slips, respectively. Shirring at the shoulders gave fullness to the bodice, which was finished with bows on the shoulders and and covered buttons from the neckline to the waist at the back. The sleeves were full and were puffed at the elbow. The very full skirts were finished witr bows from the waist to the hem. Both wore short pleated head veils held in place with a bandeau of matching flowers. Their shower bouquets were of pink camelias, japonica and asparagus fern, and to complete their toilette they wore strings of
pearls. Little Maureen Prince, niece of the bride, was flower girl, frocked in rose pink chiffon on a taffeta slip made on similar lines to the bridesmaids’ frocks. She wore a circlet of flowers finished with a velvet bow and streamers and carried a basket of Japonica, chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. M. Cann, and Mr. L. Kerrisk was groomsman.
A reception was held at the Carlton, where 100 guests were received by Mrs. J. Smith, mother of the bride, who wore a black ensemble suit, black hat with white osprey, and a should spray in mauve tonings. Miss M. Fitzgerald, sister of the bridegroom, who assisted the bride’s mother, wore a mustard frock, brown fur coat, hat and accessories and her shoulder spray was of mustard tonings. Mr. and Mrs. C. Fitzgerald left on a motor tour for the north, the bride travelling in a reseda green ensemble suit with tobacco brown accessories, over which she wore a fur stole.
