FRENCH ARMY IN MANDATED TERRITORY INTERPRETATION OF BEIRUT ANNOUNCEMENT [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright] Received July 30, 9.5 p.m. NEW YORK, July 29. The Associated Press of America’s Beirut correspondent says that a French military announcement that they are not demobilising further classes, is interpreted as foreshadowing the reorganisation of the French army in the mandated territories.
AN ORDER RESCINDED Received July 30, 6.30 p.m. VICHY, July 29. The sequestration of German and Italian property which was ordered soon after the outbreak of war has been rescinded. DEATH PENALTY
FRENCH VOLUNTEERS SERVING ABROAD. Received July 30, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, July 29. The Petain Government has decreed the death penalty for all French volunteers serving abroad. DETAINED AT ALEXANDRIA TWO FRENCH TANKERS Received July 30, 9.30 p.m.. VICHY, July 30. The Havas news agency says that Britain is detaining at Alexandria two tankers, the Roxane and Melpomeme, on the ground that petrol is an essential war supply.
